Research suggests that the reaction time of a person ranges from one to three seconds. Generally, three seconds is considered to be more accurate. Reaction time basically means the time taken by a person to react to a hazard. It essentially involves four steps that are:
▶ Seeing something in the line of vision
▶ Recognizing that the object is a hazard
▶ Making a decision whether to steer around the object or hit the brakes
▶ Reacting
Hence, when you are riding your off road vehicle, there is another concept which is related to reaction time. Known as reaction distance, it is the distance covered by your ATV during your reaction time. Depending on the reaction time in seconds and speed in feet per second this reaction distance is calculated as:
Reaction Distance = Reaction Time x Speed
It is important to note here reaction time can greatly be impaired if you are driving your ATV under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Your thinking process and judgment will alter thus exposing you to increased chances of injury or accident. The best way to have maximum fun on your off roading experience is thus to keep yourself safe and sane.
In the end, always use the power of your common sense. Know everything about your ATV as well about the riding tips is a good way to enjoy an off roading experience.
