ATVs to vroom on Panambur beach soon

September 2015

MANGALURU: The pristine shores of Panambur beach is all set to reverberate to the sounds of all-terrain vehicles (ATV) early October.

Thanks to an initiative by Bengaluru-based Navnit Motors and Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project (PBTDP), visitors and driving enthusiasts thronging Panambur beach will get to ride these ATVs on a specially created track on the seashore.

The promoters have also promised that the prices of the rides will be nominal. Presenting a demo of these ATVs, Ganesh Ramakrishnan, business head, Navnit Motors Private Ltd, said the beach provides the ideal surface for the ATVs. "We will be starting the venture with Sportsman 500 and Scrambler 500 models of ATVs manufactured by Polaris, the leading ATV manufacturers in the world from USA," he said.

This will bring in the concept of off-roading or dirt ride adventure sports to aficionados of namma Kudla in a big way.

While riding an ATV is no different from riding a motorcycle or a car, one has to keep in the mind that there is a need to counter-balance the weight, given that ATVs have a low centre of gravity, Ganesh said. Keeping in mind the safety of the riders, wearing of a chest guard that is impermeable to even the sharpest of objects with elbow guards is a must, he said.

"It is a matter of putting mind over matter and one can master the power that an ATV generates within an hour," Ganesh said.

Yatish Bykampady, chief executive officer of PBTDP, is gung-ho about the latest addition to the bouquet of adventure sports already on offer.

"We have chosen the area behind the Coast Guard district headquarters to set up the track," Yatish said.

PBTDP is also mulling over a late night run of ATVs for those who love an adrenaline rush and want to feel the wind in their hair.

"The empty shores later at night will provide an idealistic setting for this," he said.

"I have enjoyed the thrills of dirt-biking in Bengaluru. The ATV ride will be a welcome addition at Panambur beach. The beach authorities must display the prices for each of these rides and make it affordable for tourists who come here," said Rajesh Jain, a Kolar-based jeweller in Bengaluru.
